York Heat Pumps: YHJF

Re: Indoor & Outdoor Running Continuous

Even with the thermostat in the "Off" position, both the outdoor unit and indoor unit continue to run.

► The blower and auxiliary heaters are typically working normally or the customer would also be experiencing no heat.

Qty Possible Causes:
2 Stuck Contactor
Shorted Wiring
Bad Thermostat
Mis-Wired Low Voltage

CHECKOUT:

1. Check Outdoor Low Voltage

  • Open the electrical compartment cover at the outdoor unit.
  • Check for 24VAC across the compressor contact coil.
    • No 24VAC Power + Outdoor Unit Running = Stuck Contactor (Indoor unit is probably running due to multiple limit trips)
    • 24VAC Power Present ⇒ Check for 24VAC between "Y" and "C" on the stat wire connections.
      • No 24VAC Power + Power at the Contactor = "That's really weird! Call Will P."
      • 24VAC Present on "Y"Step 2. Check Thermostat

2. Check Thermostat

  • Remove the thermostat from the sub-base and check to see if the outdoor unit shuts off.
    • Outdoor Unit Shuts Off = Bad Thermostat
    • Outdoor Unit Continues to Run ⇒ At the sub-base, remove the "Y" wire and re-check to see if the outdoor unit goes off.
      • Outdoor Unit Goes Off = Bad Sub-Base (Replace Thermostat and Sub-Base)
      • Outdoor Unit Continues to Run ⇒ Check for 24VAC between the "Y" wire and "C".

3. Check Wiring

  • At the air handler, open the blower door and inspect the low voltage wiring.
  • Look for any wiring damage or or jumpers left in-place.
  • Make sure the Condensate Overflow Switch is wired correctly.
