New Heat Pumps: YHJF

Re: Outdoor Expansion Valve Bulb Rubbing

Most YHJF heat pumps come from the factory with the expansion valve bulb line in contact with the copper suction line.

Over time, the vibration from the compressor causes the bulb line to wear to the point of losing its refrigerant charge.

Symptoms:

  • Heating: Low suction pressure - adding refrigerant doesn't bring pressure up.
  • Heating: High superheat
  • Heating: Expansion valve frosting
  • Heating: Low heating performance

What to Do:

  • Check the bulb line for any contact points with other refrigerant lines or the unit cabinet.
  • Look for any worn spots in the bulb line.
    • A worn bulb line requires either Head Replacement of Valve Replacement.
    • Also be aware of "Copeland Additive Issue".
