Re: Code 8
Code 8 = Unit Performance Sentinel (UPS) Warning
- The UPS warning is NOT a Lockout condition.
- The UPS feature is intended to indicate when the heat pump is operating inefficiently.
- A UPS condition exists when:
- In heating mode with compressor energized, FP2 is greater than 125°F [52°C] for 30 continuous seconds
- In cooling mode with compressor energized, FP1 is greater than 125°F [52°C] for 30 continuous seconds
- In cooling mode with compressor energized, FP2 is less than 40°F [4.5°C] for 30 continuous seconds.
- If a UPS condition occurs, the control will immediately go to UPS warning.
- The status LED will remain on as if the control is in normal mode.
- Outputs of the control will NOT be affected by UPS.
- During UPS warning, the alarm relay will cycle on and off.
- The cycle rate will be “on” for 5 seconds, “off” for 25 seconds, “on” for 5 seconds, “off” for 25 seconds, etc.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
- Bad FP1 or FP2 sensor (see sensor resistance chart)
Cooling Mode
- FP2 less than 40 deg.
- Low freon
- Bad expansion valve
- Low indoor airflow
- FP1 greater than 125 deg.
Heating Mode
- FP2 greater than 125 deg.
HOW TO DISABLE UPS:
The UPS feature can be disabled by changing a dip switch on the CXM board.
DIP Switch 1: Unit Performance Sentinel Disable - provides field selection to disable the UPS feature.
On = Enabled. Off = Disabled
