Re: Cycling On and Off
The compressor contactor energizes and the outdoor unit runs normally for several seconds, then cycles back off.

Bad Pressure Switch |
CHECKOUT:
1. Check Low Voltage at Outdoor Unit
- At the outdoor unit, monitor voltage across the two stat wires.
2. Check 24v at Contactor
- Check for 24VAC across the compressor contact coil as the unit cycles.
3. Check Charge/Safeties
- Hook-up refrigerant gauges to the pressure ports on the unit.
- Start the compressor with a call for cooling from the thermostat.
- Monitor the refrigerant pressures as the system operates.
- Normal R-22 Pressures = 60 to 80 psig Suction, 150 to 275 psig Head.
- Normal Pressures + Contactor Cycles = Bad Pressure Switch
- Low Pressure + Open Safety = Low Refrigerant Charge
4. Check the Thermostat
- Disconnect the thermostat from the subbase.
- Place a jumper between "R", "Y" and "G".
- Recheck low voltage at outdoor unit.
- Unit Runs Normally = Bad Thermostat
- Power Still Cycles --> Check indoor unit for Condensate Overflow Switch or other safeties that break "Y".
